How do you come across?

This Week’s Good Work Insight

For hiring managers and candidates–warmth is gold.

I don’t think most of us appreciate the value of warmth. Some people are great at it. A few are over-the-top (cloying, sappy, scary). But most of us have some work to do (we come off coldish).

Warmth is glue.

Our aim is to check-in with clients and candidates once a week. Being up-to-speed on a job application is important for everyone. It also gives us a chance to know our clients and candidates better.

We get intel when things aren’t quite right.

One member of our team called a prospective candidate to give him an update. And the candidate was cool. He may have been distracted. But it came across as annoyed.

When someone comes across as annoyed, is that a good look?

I haven’t seen a client scorecard that values someone being prickly. If you are reading this and there is a pang of conscience, good! Our conscience tells us to stop doing harmful things. Our conscience helps us to be a good neighbor.

On a scale of 1-to-10, how prickly are you? In emails? Texts? When disturbed?

I have work to do–especially when being interrupted (ask my wife and children).

How do you come across? Own a small change.

Cordially,

CEO & Founder
